100% Latex Mattress

100% Latex Mattress

What is 100% latex? Many people confuse memory foam with latex when it comes to a mattress but there are a whole heap of differences between 100% natural latex and a synthetic alternative. We shall use this piece to answer some of our frequently asked questions.

Are latex mattresses better than memory foam mattresses?

Memory foam mattresses are made from polyurethane and latex ones are 100% natural. These materials come with different qualities that make each one better than the other depending on what is needed for a person’s sleep needs. A latex mattress can last up to 15-20 years whereas a mass-produced memory foam mattress will generally have a lifespan of 5-7 years.

What type of sleeper is suited to a latex mattress?

The most important thing to consider before choosing a latex mattress is what you are looking for when you sleep. Memory foam mattresses can often work better with stomach or back sleepers, while latex beds suit side-sleepers much more effectively as they mould around the body and offer excellent support through the night. Natural latex mattresses are often firmer which makes them an excellent choice for people with chronic back pain, or who just prefer a firmer feel.

Can someone with a latex allergy sleep on a latex mattress?

Latex mattresses are hypoallergenic and there is no risk of an allergic reaction to latex when using a natural, uncoated latex mattress. Unlike memory foam, which contains chemicals that can cause irritation for those with sensitivity or allergies, 100% natural latex is completely safe for people who are allergic to synthetic latex.

How does it feel to sleep on a latex mattress?

A latex mattress will feel different to someone who is used to sleeping on memory foam. Latex has a firm feeling that pressure points are relieved with, and while it might take some time for your body to adjust, most people find themselves waking up refreshed after sleeping on natural latex.

Do natural latex mattresses smell?

You may detect a faint odour of vanilla which is completely harmless (and actually quite pleasant).

What is the different type of latex?

100% natural latex, as the name suggests is made entirely from organic and natural materials i.e. rubber. Synthetic latex, on the other hand, is made from a blend of natural and synthetic materials.

What are the benefits?

Some people will experience relief from pressure points, while others may find that their skin feels more comfortable without being exposed to potentially harsh chemicals found in synthetic latex mattresses. Of course, the best way to really experience the benefits of a natural latex mattress is to try it for yourself and you can do so, completely risk free with our 101 night trial
